Biography

Ben Kaiser (1985, Morristown, NJ) is a New York–based textile artist working primarily in abstract tapestry, often incorporating digital fabrication and the use of light as a material. Since beginning their practice in 2016, Kaiser has developed a visual language informed by the structural intelligence of traditional quilting, the spontaneity of abstraction, and the fleeting natural phenomena of light as it dissolves and reappears while passing through tree cover at dusk.

Working with layered fabrics, paints, dye, and custom 3D-printed elements, Kaiser creates works that move between structure and permeability, emphasizing balance across form, material, and negative space. Back lighting activates the work in low-light conditions, revealing depth and shifting spatial relationships.

Formerly a fine dining chef, Kaiser has worked in New York’s fine art logistics and gallery settings since 2016 and has gained practical knowledge of art fabrication, installation, and the mechanics of the art market.
